Spell Bowl Team Ends Season as State Finalist

Saturday, November 12th the East Noble Spell Bowl team traveled to Purdue University to compete in their 19th consecutive State competition. Competing alongside 30 other schools, ten of which were in class one with the Knights, they finished in the top half of the state. With a score of 66, the team totaled their best score of the season, placing them in 8th in class one, and 13th overall in the state.

The Spelling Knights were led by senior co-captains Alyssa Yoquelet and Phillip Phan as well as fellow senior who all scored perfect nines. Junior Michael Lehman spelled a personal best earning a near-perfect eight ribbon, while senior Lucas Graden scored a seven. Junior Meghann McCoy scored a six, while juniors Anthony Phan and Aubrey Zahner and sophomore Nick McCoy all spelled five words correctly. Sophomore Abby Vorndran scored a three, and junior Lief Brandgard did not get the opportunity to compete.

Overall the East Noble Spell Bowl team had a great season full of individual as well as team improvement. Coach Bob Avery will be retiring with this season but cannot wait to see what the future holds for the East Noble Spell Bowl team.
