The East Noble Spell Bowl team finished up their regular season this past week. Competing at their final two invitationals, the Spelling Knights continued to show individual and team improvement.

Thursday, October 22nd, the team traveled to their second invite at Penn High School. Due to schedule conflicts, seven of the ten teams that were to be in attendance forfeited, leaving only Penn, East Noble, and Kouts.

The senior co-captains led the team, Phillip Phan earning a perfect score of nine, and Alyssa Yoquelet with a near-perfect score of eight. Close behind were senior Jenna Boese and junior Lief Brandgard, each spelling seven words correctly. Junior Meghann McCoy got a five, while senior Lucas Graden and sophomores Nick McCoy and Abby Vorndran each correctly spelled four words. A last-minute substitute sophomore ended with a score of three.

Penn, the reigning champion, scored a perfect 90, while Kouts scored a 65, and East Noble (one speller short) scored a 51.

The Spelling Knights did not take a break, then traveling to Logansport High School on Monday, October 26th.  The Knights finished in 5th place out of ten teams, but totaled with their highest score of the season (omitting NE8 meet score due to technicalities). Team results were as follows:

90 Penn

78 Martinsville

74 Kouts

72 Pike

62 East Noble

59 Plymouth

49 Logansport

29 Marion

22 Winamac

Individually, the Knight Spellers showed great improvement from previous competitions. Senior co-captains Alyssa Yoquelet and Phillip Phan both scored perfect nines, while senior Jenna Boese and junior Meghann McCoy scored near-perfect eights. Senior Lucas Graden, junior Michael Lehman, and sophomore Abigail Vorndran each spelled 7 words correctly.  Junior Lief Brandgard score a four, and sophomore Nick McCoy scored a three.
