Trail of Terror: Nightmare at Bixler Lake

Trail of Terror: Nightmare at Bixler Lake

This past Friday and Saturday (10.23 – 10.24), the Park and Recreation Department of Kendallville put on their annual Trail of Terror at Bixler Lake. Preparation started a few weeks before to assure everything was ready. The back of the park, opposite side to the library in the camping area, was transformed in to a spooky forest complete with a sewer, vampires, and a plane crash (including undead survivors).

The cast had been transformed into their roles an hour before the hayrides began each night. They were put into place about a half hour before, taking several trips to get everyone over from the sports complex. The cast remained at their sites though out the evening. The sites had a small campfire already going for the cast before they even got to their location. They were taken back to the complex after the guests after left via hayride once more.

The sports complex became the sight of a little family fun, with games for children. Those brave enough to take on the trail took a hayride over to the park and to the starting point, the welcome cabin with its own fortune teller. They then worked their way through the trail, though temporary rooms and cabins, a short trail in the woods, and eventually made their way back to the start, where they were given a ride back to the complex. The whole trail was decorated, far more than more would expect it to be. While it might not have been the most frightening, it certainly turned out to be a good time for both guests and cast.
