Monday, September 21st, the East Noble Spell Bowl team hosted the annual Spell Bowl Invitational. Twelve schools from the area brought teams to compete, making for a total of fourteen teams (Penn High School brought both their Varsity and Junior Varsity teams).

After ten rounds of spelling from the state-distributed list, East Noble came in 5th place, losing to 4th place team Bishop Dwenger on the third tie-breaker (the first time in 24 years that this tie-breaker has been used at the East Noble Invitational).

Other team scores were as follows:

Penn #1 90

Penn #2 83

Columbia City 56

Kouts 50

Dwenger 44 (tie-breaker)

East Noble 44

Northwood 34

Carroll 33

Garrett 32

Logansport 32

Snider & North Side (combined) 31

Prairie Heights 24

Northridge 20

East Noble seniors led the way for the Knight Spellers. Co-captains Alyssa Yoquelet and Phillip Phan received near-perfect ribbons for spelling eight out of the given nine words correctly, while senior Jenna Boese correctly spelled seven words. In total, the East Noble team spelled 44 out of 90 words correctly. Coach Bob Avery anticipates much improvement and progress this year, not only for the individual spellers, but the team as a whole.

Knight Spellers will compete next at the Penn High School Invitational on October 1st.
