The conceptual design of the future athletic plaza.

About two years ago, Mr. Peterson and some students on the beautification project committee announced the proposed frame of what was to be the Beautification Project to the East Noble School Corporation Board of Trustees.

The Beautification Project plans include a large, arched, cast-iron gate at the entrance to the athletic plaza, a 6-foot-tall brick wall to hold plaques recognizing financial donors; the plaza itself, made up of 6,000 of the engraved paving bricks; pathways to the locker rooms; a redone brick concession building; a line of flag poles on a hill on the north end of the athletic field; and a row of trees along the south end.

The project was outlined to be completed in phases, according to Peterson, and has already begun. As of last year, the south end of the athletic area was landscaped and the wooden concession stand was torn down and replaced by a new brick building.

The project is to be paid for by those who wish to purchase engraved paving bricks to be laid in the plaza. Bricks are available in three sizes: small (4×8 inch) bricks, for $100, including a maximum of three text lines, ideal for individuals and families; large (8×8 inch) bricks, for $300, including a maximum of six text lines, ideal for clubs or groups; and Knight Medallion bricks (12×12 inch) bricks for $1,000, including customized logos and borders, ideal for corporations and organizations. Texts can be referencing an event, a memorial, a shout-out to a player, or advertising an East Noble club or activity. April 30th is the deadline for brick orders. Order forms are available at the East Noble campus beautification website (linked below), and at any East Noble school.

Bricks are to be laid around a large square-block centerpiece depicting a large East Noble Knights crest surrounded by smaller squares in honor of the five East Noble elementary schools, East Noble Middle School, and high school clubs.

This project is not to be funded by tax money or school district funds. It is an independent project organized by Mr. Peterson and his student members, and is for the benefit of the community. The project design incorporates East Noble history, and will be funded by the sold bricks. Slater’s Concrete Products in Kendallville will be making the bricks, and Ley Monuments in Avilla is engraving them.

The next phase will begin this summer. The plan is to ready the land in June, to open up the plaza, and lay the plaza bricks.
