Academic Super Bowl Invitational

 

On Monday (3.02), East Noble High School’s Academic Super Bowl headed for Hamilton High School their first invitational. This year, the theme is “The Grandeur that was Rome.” In the Academic Super Bowl, there are five subjects: Math, English, Science, Fine Arts, and History, competing in that order this year with the Interdisciplinary round always last. The teams use books and/or study guides to prepare for the competitions. Each subject is its own round with students from each school forming teams that sit are separate teams throughout the competition room, i.e. the gymnasium this time. Each round consists of twenty-five questions with substitutions of up to two members with three team members needing to be up there. Each question is projected on a screen for all to ready at the same time and the team captain circles an answer on a sheet of paper. For each correct answer, a team gets a point.

During the Math round, East Noble sent two teams. Only one of the teams won a ribbon, by placing 5th. The team consisted of Phillip Phan, Sahil Patel, Emily Engle, and Brian Snow. The winner of the Math round was Carroll with twenty-three points. EN teams one and two had eight and twelve points respectively. For the English round, EN teams one and two gained fifteen and twelve points respectively and Angola won with seventeen points. During the Science round, DeKalb won with nineteen points and East Noble’s team won eleven points and didn’t place. For the Fine Arts round, DeKalb and Hamilton tried for first with fifteen points while East Noble’s team got eight points. During the Interdisciplinary round, Carroll won with sixteen points and East Noble with nine. Overall, East Noble’s Academic team scored fifty points, placing ninth of nine and DeKalb winning first with ninety points. The Academic team hopes to do better during their next meet on March 19th.
