Dinner and a Show at DeKalb

On February 13, 2015, the East Noble High School Jazz Band travelled to Dekalb for their first public performance this year. Each year Dekalb Middle School and High School Jazz Bands host the annual “Night of Jazz and Chicken Dinner” at Dekalb Middle School. It’s a great chance for different bands around the area to perform in a non-competitive, comfortable setting.

This year was the 10th annual festival, and it did not disappoint. East Noble had a very solid performance, considering the cancellations and limited time to work on putting three difficult pieces together. The band performed 8th at 7:50 P.M. playing the selections: “Barnburner,” “Georgia on My Mind,” and “Trofeo de Bolos.”

Following the performance, each band enters a critique, and East Noble’s was very positive and encouraging. Other bands are looking forward to seeing how we do this year. East Noble High School Jazz Band has been considered one of the up-and-coming Jazz Bands for a few years, and now it is really starting to take off.

Other than just listening to great jazz music, if you attended the concert you would have gotten a taste of the delicious food offered. The dinner option of the evening included: half-of-a-chicken provided by Nelson’s Chicken, a baked potato, either coleslaw or applesauce, a dinner roll, a choice of many different desserts, and a drink. You can eat all of this, and listen to jazz, for only $9. A good deal for a very enjoyable night. If you didn’t go, it’s something to consider next year if you’d like to support the band and get a good meal.
