The Marching Knights: Celebrating a Spectacular Season

As our fall sports season comes to an end, so too does the Marching Knights’ marching band season. The Knights had been working together since May to perfect their skills and, after a long six months of blood, sweat, and tears, are sad to see their season end. The band partook in several competitions, starting in Bluffton, Dekalb, then hosted their own invitational here at East Noble, Avon (even with popped tires on their semi), Homestead, Chesterton, Northrop, and finished their season at Semi-State at Pike High school.

On Sunday, November 9th, the Marching Knights got together one last time to celebrate their outstanding season. Each family brought in a dish to share, and the students and their families and friends all enjoyed a pot luck dinner together. Then, the students put on their uniforms for one last stand-still performance for their loved ones in the gym. After the performance, Mr. Munoz announced the awards ceremony. The members of the band all voted for the outstanding member in each grade level. The outstanding middle school member was Olivia Smolinske, outstanding freshman was Zachary Hollis, outstanding sophomore was Dawson Meade, outstanding juniors were Daniel Kane and Kenia Diaz, and outstanding seniors were Deidre Kankovsy and Joanna Foster. The directors then chose a most improved member, which was freshman Erik Michaels. Last but not least, the ”Spirit of Pete” award recognizing excellence and pride, in memory of former East Noble band director Pete Bottomley, was awarded to senior Nathan Durham.

Congratulations to all of the Marching Knights on an incredible marching season, and good luck to all of the winter programs starting soon!
