My Student Council State Experience

The morning of November 7th I woke up bright and early around 6 a.m. and headed out the door to DeKalb High School to take the SAT. After the long test, I hopped in the car and headed to Indianapolis for the Indiana Association of Student Councils (IASC). After a three hour long drive due to traffic from the band state finals and the Colts game that would take place the next day.Though I arrived late and missed multiple morning sessions. I still managed to have a great time. The theme this year was magic and decorations from the t-shirts to the halls were decorated like Hogwarts. That’s right, the Harry Potter theme took over state this year. When I arrived, we had one last big session with every school where honor council awards were handed out. East Noble has been an honor council for almost 30 years and we are recognized on a national level. After the award ceremony, we headed out for dinner before the party. The first night of state convention is filled with a dance, a magic show, and a college fair. It was a great time to meet new people and get some information about your future and where you would like to go to college. We ended the Saturday night with a candle lighting ceremony, supplied by glow sticks, and the speaker this year passed out fragile yarn to tie around our wrist. This yarn is to remind us to take care of ourselves and our leadership and to keep it on as long as possible.  One whole week later, I still have mine on.  The next morning, we get up early and have one more big morning session with a motivational speaker. The speaker this year was Scott Greenberg and he shared his story and taught us how to overcome obstacles in life and how to use our leadership to help ourselves and others. The winners of a video contest were shown and East Noble got an honorable mention. We adjourned the session and headed out to the buses. Though my state experience was short, I had a blast and I hope everyone else enjoyed the magical experience.
