Spotlight Student: Roger Reichhart

Boy Scouts of America is one of the most widely participated in activities for boys over the age of ten. The starting rank is called Tenderfoot. From there, one must progress through the next ranks of Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle. Very few boys ever make it to the Eagle rank, or if they do, it takes a very long time and a lot of hard work. Only about 7% of the overall scouts earned the Eagle rank in 2013. That’s why it’s such an extraordinary accomplishment that Roger Reichhart, a senior here at East Noble, recently won his Eagle Rank award.

To earn the Eagle Rank, Roger had to make it through each ranking, completing merit badges on the way. To make it to Eagle, a total of 21 of these badges must be earned. The merit badges include topics such as Personal Fitness, Camping, Life-saving, Citizenship in the community, nation, and world, First Aid, and Swimming, Hiking, or Biking.

Another requirement of the Eagle Rank is holding down a leadership position within the scout’s troop for at least six months. Along with that, one must take part in a Scoutmaster conference.

The last requirement needed to earn the Eagle rank is the completion of a service project, to show that they are a productive citizen of their community. For his project, Roger installed siding on an elevated hunting stand for a friend in Auburn. After completion of this, and the other requirements, Roger was awarded his Eagle Scout Ranking!
