Super Bowl XLIX

Every year, two of the best football teams meet to face each other. On Sunday (2/1), the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks faced each of in Glendale, Arizona. This event was the most watched Super Bowl in its history. Pre-game included the national anthem performed by Indina Menzel and a fly over by the US Air Force jets.

The game was kicked off by the Seahawks, decided by a pre-game coin flip. The first quarter saw good defense, a particular show by Tom Brady, quarterback of the Patriots, managed an interception near the end of the first quarter. While neither teams managed score in the first quarter, the second quarter was a different story. LaFell (19) scored a touchdown for the Patriots about half way through the quarter and the Seahawks’ Linch scored near the end. The patriots scored once more at the end of the quarter and the Seahawks gained another with only a second left. The 2nd quarter ended with a tie of 14 – 14.

The Seahawks made good strides in the 3rd quarter with a touchdown in the first part of the quarter, another at five minutes, and an interception. The score was 14 Patriots – 24 Seahawks at the end of the 3rd. The 4th quarter saw the most action. Both teams played fiercely. The Patriots scored a touchdown at 8 minutes and another at 4:45. Near the end of the final quarter, Wilson of the Patriots intercepted a Seahawks play, an interception that would be a game changer in the favor of the Patriots. A personal foul was called on Irvin (51) of the Seahawks for unnecessary roughness after a scuffle breaks out on the field. For the remaining ten seconds of the game, the Patriots begin their victory celebration in favor of preforming another play. The final score is 28 Patriots and 24 Seahawks. Victory goes to the patriots.

After the conclusion of the game, Abigail Vorndran, freshman, had this to say, “I didn’t not like that game. I thought it was horrible and the Patriots didn’t play well. They didn’t deserve to win, the Seahawks played better.”

While some disagreed with the results, others celebrated. In the end, both teams played well and were fierce competitors. Congratulations to the New England Patriots for victory.
