Spotlight Student: Deidre Kankovsky

“She’s just as nice as can be to everyone,” says Bridgette Millington about Deidre Kankovsky, a senior here at East Noble High School. “She’ll make your day because she’s so nice.” Bridgette knows Deidre through marching band, something that Deidre and her family are very involved in. She plays anything percussion, and she’s incredibly good at it. The Marching Knights wouldn’t be where they are today without her. “Her positive attitude and bright personality puts everyone in good spirits, even if we haven’t played our best,” says an anonymous member of the marching band. “She’s so thoughtful of others,” says another anonymous member. Deidre is notoriously seen holding doors open for everyone else, staying late to put away band equipment after practices, and keeping a smile on her face when others wear frowns. According to Deidre, “even if you aren’t in the best mood, complimenting someone else could give you the satisfaction of knowing you brightened someone’s day, and that could then put you in a better mood.” Deidre is also involved in East Noble’s Christian Fellowship, a group for students to talk to each other about their faith. “She’s the kind of person you can talk to,” says Bridgette, “and she’s so nice to everyone, she deserves to be recognized for it.” Deidre says, “Smiles are contagious, you need to spread them like confetti.”
