The Magnificent Seven Review

Seven men battle against impossible odds for the fate of a town in The Magnificent Seven.

A remake of the 1960 film of the same name, The Magnificent Seven tells the story of an industrialist named Bartholomew Bogue, who takes over the town of Rose Creek. Desperate townspeople seek out bounty hunter Sam Chisolm to defend them, and Chisolm recruits a motley crew of gunslingers to fight for Rose Creek. But when the bullets start to fly, the seven mercenaries soon realize that they are fighting for more than just cash.

The film’s amazing cast includes Denzel Washington as Sam Chisolm, Chris Pratt as Josh Faraday, Ethan Hawke as Goodnight Robicheaux, Vincent D’Onofrio as Jack Horne, Byung-hun Lee as Billy Rocks, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Vazquez, and Martin Sensmeier as Red Harvest. Peter Sarsgaard potrays Bartholomew Bogue while Haley Bennett plays Emma Cullen.

While the storytelling in the film was a bit hard to follow, and it took a while to fully get the movie going, the action scenes were amazing and showed off the seven at their best. Director Antoine Fuqua definitely proved that he can pull off a classic western.

Overall, I give the film an 8.5/10 or B rating for its amazing cast and great action scenes but also for its messy storytelling. Though I don’t think this will revitalize the western film, it was, as the name implies, a magnificent movie.
