Star Wars: Battlefront Review

Wage war across a galaxy far, far away in Star Wars: Battlefront.

Unlike previous installments in the Battlefront series, this latest addition does not feature a campaign mode. Instead, it features single player battle modes, where the user takes control of either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire and battle on four different planets: Hoth, Sullest, Endor, and Tatooine. When the user kills enemy units, tokens can be collected from the fallen soldiers. These tokens are worth different amounts of points. The first team to reach 100 points wins the game.

There are two versions of this type of game mode. The first type is normal soldiers fighting against each other. The second type is hero mode. In this mode, the user can play as a famous character from the movies. If the user plays as the rebellion, the characters to choose from are Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, or Han Solo. If the user is the Empire, the characters are Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, or Boba Fett.

Another type of round available in Star Wars: Battlefront is survival mode. In this round, the user is stranded on one of the four planets mentioned above. Help is coming, but the user must be able to survive against waves of Imperial troops that increase in difficulty as time moves on. Once wave 15 is completed, the game is won. However, only a certain number of lives are available.  Once they run out, the game is over. Both this mode and battle mode can be played by oneself or with/against another person

The game is mainly focused on multiplayer mode, where players battle against each other through several game modes. Achieving victories and kills as well as achievements will earn credits, which can be used to buy weapons, upgrades, and custom character designs from the game shop.

Despite the lack of a campaign, I was satisfied with how the gameplay was set up and how it ran. The graphics were several times better than previous installments, and gameplay was easy to understand. The different weapons that available to use are also a major—and better—change from the other Battlefront games.

I rate this game a 9.9/10.
