The AristoCats: A Purr-fect Show

Friday, January 29th and Saturday, January 30th, East Noble Children’s Theatre performed Disney Kids “The AristoCats.”

A considerable amount of effort went into putting the show together. The directors decided to do a split stage, one half dedicated to the house(s) and one to the barn. The show also made use of four drops throughout the show: a path scene, a farm scene, a cityscape, and a plain black drop. The sets and the drops really created an atmosphere for the show and helped the audience feel like they were on the Parisian countryside.

Perhaps one of the most challenging aspects about doing a show in which most characters are animals is making them appear realistic or animal-like. However, the characters in this show came to life. Through use of makeup and costume, the characters appeared almost Disney-like.

The AristoCats show that was on the stage this past weekend was a bit different than the Disney classic most are familiar with. The show featured musical numbers such as “The Gabble Girls” and “Roquefort to the Rescue” that aren’t in the Disney film. What is more, the characters spent time interacting with the audience. In the “Everybody wants to be a Cat” number in the second act, as well as the finale, the characters marched down the aisles interacting with audience members.

Despite technical difficulties such as a light board blowing and damages to the set, the show was spectacular. All cast and crew put forth great effort to create the performance, and it showed.

If you did not get the chance to see The AristoCats this weekend and still wish to get your fill of East Noble Theatre, there is still time. The Nerd will be showing at the end of February, followed by How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and the 50th anniversary show.
