Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3: What’s To Come

With the success of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Phase 2 of the Marvel
Cinematic Universe is almost over, and will conclude this summer with Ant-Man,
which will star Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man.
This means that next year starts the next generation of movies in the
MCU…Phase 3! Here is what to expect in terms of MCU movies for the next 4
years.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR (2016)

Phase 3 Kicks off with Captain America: Civil War. Chris Evans and Robert
Downy Jr. reprise their roles as Steve Rogers/Captain America and Tony Stark/Iron
Man respectively. Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Paul
Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, and Paul Rudd will also
reprise their roles from previous MCU films as Black Widow, Winter Soldier,
Falcon, Vision, Hawkeye, War Machine, Scarlet Witch, and Ant-Man respectively
Additionally, Chadwick Boseman makes his MCU debut as the Black Panther,
while Daniel Bruhl will play Baron Helmut Zemo. Thanks to a deal with Sony,
Spider Man will also make an appearance, though it is currently unknown who is
playing him. In the comics, Civil War was mainly about the Superhero Registration
Act, which makes superheroes act under official regulation. This act creates 2
sides: those who are opposed to the act (led by Captain America), and those who
support the act (led by Iron Man). In the MCU, the film will be more about the
World Governments attempting to create a governing body to decide whether to
call in the Avengers or not.

DOCTOR STRANGE (2016)

Following the Civil War will be Doctor Strange, a character who loses the
ability to work with his hands in a car crash, and later trains to become the
Sorcerer Supreme. This movie will open up a whole new world for Marvel Studios:
the Supernatural World. So far, the only cast member we know of is that Doctor
Strange is played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 (2017)

Following the success of the first film, the MCU will continue with
Guardians of the Galaxy 2. James Gunn will still direct, but the cast is still
unknown at this time, although really, in my opinion, they will still have to keep
the main cast of the previous film for the film to be any good.

THOR: RAGNAROK (2017)

Soon after Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will come Thor: Ragnarok. Chris
Hemsworth will return as Thor, and Tom Hiddleston will return as Loki. What is
Ragnarok, you ask? In Norse Mythology, it simply means the end of all things. This
movie could mark the end of Asgard, and possibly of Loki as well. We could be
saying goodbye to Lady Sif and the Warriors 3 as well. I expect a lot of death from
this movie.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, PART 1 (2018)

In May of 2018 will be the next Avengers Film: Avengers: Infinity War, Part
1. Based on the title, the film will more than likely revolve around Thanos getting
the 6 infinity stones, meaning the Avengers will have to stop him. As Thanos is in
space, it is also likely the Guardians of the Galaxy will also be in this.

BLACK PANTHER (2018)

Coming in 2018 is the introduction of another new character into the MCU:
The Black Panther. All we know about this upcoming film is that Chadwick
Boseman will play T’Challa/Black Panther.

CAPTAIN MARVEL (2018)

Captain Marvel will also be released in 2018. Though pretty much
everything is unknown for now, we do know that this incarnation of Captain
Marvel will be Carol Danvers.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, PART 2 (2019)

In May of 2019 will come the second part of Avengers: Infinity War. Little is
known about this film, though it will probably pick up where part 1 leaves off.

INHUMANS (2019)

Phase 3 will conclude with Inhumans. We’ve already had an introduction to
inhumans, if you’ve been watching Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. Other than that,
little is known about this.

So that’s all that has been confirmed for Phase 3. I know that most of the
films I have listed are little known at the moment, and that the dates of the
release dates for some may change, but this is what is currently revealed as of
now. With all these movies coming out in the next several years, as well as the 3
new X-men films next year and the reboot of Fantastic 4—not to mention the DC
movies coming out in this time period too—the next several years will be really
big for superhero movies.
