My Three Object Story
Brittany Beechy, Reporter|October 22, 2014
Hello, my name is Brittany Beechy. I am currently in a creative writing class where we write stories based off what we have learned or just a story that is from a specific background. For this story, we were asked to pick three items and incorporate them into a story. This was one of my favorite pieces that I have written while I have been in this class so I had gotten permission to post it. I hope everyone enjoys.
She pulled out her ID card to scan into the building. It was cold and had to be at least midnight by now. The door finally opened as she slipped inside. She knew there was something going on but she couldn’t seem to figure out just what. She knew she needed to move quickly. There wasn’t much time she had. Maybe an hour at most but she wasn’t sure. It was twenty feet before she reached the floor that she needed to be on. ‘This is going to be a long elevator drop’, she thought to herself. She tied the rope off and readied herself. She decided it would be safer to just drop over the edge, that way she wouldn’t go too far forward and hit the other side of the elevator. As she dropped down the rope started burning. She knew if she wasn’t careful the rope would catch fire. She also had to remember not to lose the name tag because that was the only way into any of the rooms in the building. She felt a sharp tug as she came to a stop at the 20th floor. Finally, she hated descending like that. ‘Next time I’ll just take the elevator down instead of diving through the shaft.’ She thought to herself. Knowing that would never change, she pried open the elevator door and crawled through the opening. Her dangly necklace started getting stuck on the door so she quickly grabbed it and tucked it into her shirt. Door 394 was the one she needed to find. This could take a while. She knew that it was just a glassed in lab room. Then again, all the rooms on this floor are just a glassed-in lab room. She proceeded down the hallway cautiously. There wasn’t supposed to be anyone here this time of night except maybe a guard or two that always fell asleep while on the job. She kept moving down the hallway, one step at a time. She knew that between every hallway that made a four way cross, here were floor alarms and if you tripped one then the police would arrive within seconds. Finally she came to a halt, reading the numbers on the doors. The sign had said room 394. This was it, this is what she had been looking for. She scanned her ID card and the door abruptly opened. She slowly entered. The room was rather large and she scanned the room until she found the object that she needed to find out what everything was about. She walked over to the object and noticed that it was a large touch screen. There were multiple headphone jacks across the front of the machine. She pulled her headphones out of her pocket and plugged them in. She started pressing different buttons on the screen. Music started blaring into both ears. She was almost hypnotized by how amazing this music was. She couldn’t believe that this is what they had been hiding the whole time. To most people it would be just some kind of music but in her mind this was the most amazing band to ever play. She knew what she had to do. Keeping her headphones in the jack she started searching through the large touch screen computer. She finally did it, she uploaded all of the music onto the internet so that everyone could hear this amazing band. She didn’t know their name but would soon find out when everyone started falling in love with them. She then synced her phone to the large computer to download the music. She unplugged her headphones from the computer and plugged them into her phone. She pounced her way out of the room and into the hallway. Finding the stairs she finally got back on the main floor. She used the ID card to scan out of the building. She started strolling down the street blaring this new music that she had fallen in love with and couldn’t believe the company was hiding from everyone.
