EN Varsity Volleyball Defeats Lakeland

The East Noble varsity volleyball team played Lakeland Thursday September 8. East Noble won the first match 25-11 and went on to win the second match 25-9.

The lineup for the first match started off with Kinzie Gura, Payton Hart, Morgan Dwyer, Katie Ley, Grace Erwin, and Taylor Lahee. At first, things didn’t look too good for the Knights. It seemed like a constant struggle to keep up with Lakeland, and if they gained a lead it was hard to keep it. After the seventh point, things starting to turn around, and East Noble was suddenly five points ahead. The girls worked very hard to keep this lead and started to gain a bigger lead, putting them eight points ahead, almost winning the match.

“I thought it was a pretty tough [match],” said junior Katie Ley. “We started off really weak, but we came back really strong.”

The second match was just as tough but just as well-fought by East Noble. At the very beginning, the scoreboard was tied up until East Noble pulled ahead for a moment. But just like the first match, the girls had to fight hard to maintain their lead. Erwin made several terrific dives that kept the ball in play. East Noble kept Lakeland at bay, pulling 15 points ahead before they scored another point. In the end, East Noble was two points away from winning the second match. They ultimately won the game.
