On October 16, East Noble football made its mark on the newly-formed Northeast 8 conference by earning their way to a share of the first conference championship, sharing the honor with Bellmont and Leo. Each team suffered one loss in conference play through the season with East Noble losing to Leo, Leo losing to Bellmont, and Bellmont falling to East Noble with a score of 28-7 on Friday night in the last game of the regular season. This win boosted the Knights to a record of 8-1 wins for the year.

Not only did the Knights clinch a conference title, but their head coach, Luke Amstutz, also coached his way into his second honor of being named the Indianapolis Colts’ Coach of the Week, an honor that is given every week to one high school head coach in Indiana during the regular football season. In his four years of coaching at East Noble, Amstutz has officially been honored with this award twice, his first being two years ago when he was honored after East Noble’s upset of #2 ranked New Haven during their homecoming game.

Even though Amstutz was presented this award, he gives the credit to the players and his coaching staff.

“Being selected as Colts’ Coach of the Week is a tremendous honor, but is more of a reflection of the work of our players and coaching staff. I am extremely excited to receive the award,” said Amstutz.

On Tuesday, October 20, the Colts sent a representative, Mike Prior, to present this award to Amstutz and to speak to the players about what it means to be a part of a football team both as a teammate and as a person. He then presented Amstutz with a Colts hat and a certificate that is signed by Roger Goodell (the commissioner of the National Football League), Ryan Grigson (the Colts’ General Manager), Chuck Pagano (the Colts’ head coach), and himself.

Along with the hat and certificate, Amstutz was awarded with a $2,000 grant to use towards the team, and he will also get the opportunity to visit the Colts’ facility in December to observe a practice and will attend one of the Colts’ home games at the Lucas Oil Stadium to be recognized along with the other coaches who received the honor during the season.
