East Noble’s Varsity Baseball team pulled a close victory against Columbia City Tuesday night, pulling a 4-3 victory against the Eagles.

Both teams started strong in the 1st inning, starting the game tied 1-1. For the next 2 innings, both teams remained scoreless, and in the 4th inning, it was 3 up, 3 down for both teams.

The game changing moment was in the 5th inning, when Columbia City moved ahead by scoring 2 runs in the top of the 5th, bringing the score 3-1. However, this did not slow the Knights down, as they scored 3 runs, taking a narrow lead of 4-3.

From there, it was up to pitcher Marc Musselman to try to keep the strikes coming and keep Columbia City from scoring again. Although the Eagles almost made it to home plate, Musselman and the rest of the team managed to keep Columbia City from scoring for the rest of the game. They game was called after the top of the 7th, when Columbia City failed to score again.

“I was proud of our guys and how hard they played,” says EN coach Cory Jacquay. “We ended up getting down 3-1 but never gave up and were able to put up 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Marc Musselman did an outstanding job on the mound for us as well. He kept CC guessing all night long. All said, it was a complete team effort.”

“I felt like we really hit the ball well during the game and we capitalized on opportunities with runners in scoring position which helped Marc on the mound so he could relax instead of try to strike people out so that nobody scored. Overall we had a good day defensively and at the plate and we were able to tie everything together just enough to get the win,” says 2nd baseman Devin Gingerich.

The Knights next roll into battle against New Haven. About the game to come, Coach Jacquay said, “I like our chance going into New Haven. They are talented and have only lost a handful of games but if we eliminate mental mistakes and put the bat on the ball I think we can play with anyone. Columbia City played New Haven well and only lost by one run. We have to go into the game with a lot energy and confidence.”
