Girls Run Away with Sectionals

On a warm and sunny Tuesday, the East Noble girls’ track and field team ran away with a sectional title, winning just two out of sixteen events and placing in all but one to seal their first sectional championship in eight years. Out of eleven schools, the ladies finished first with a score of 115, which placed them 19.5 points ahead of second-place Westview and 35 ahead of third-place DeKalb.

East Noble sectional champions include Jacey Cauhorn, who threw 129’ 10” in the discus throw, a personal record and state qualifier, and the 4×8 relay team of Kara McLaughlin, Riley Larson, Alexia Zawadske, and Courtney Casselman, as they ran for a personal record of 10:01.83.

To qualify for regionals, each individual runner or relay needs to place in the top four in their respective event. Of course the sectional champions advance to regionals, but some other regional qualifiers include:

Lydia Walterhouse:  2nd in the 100 Hurdles
Alexia Zawadzke:  2nd in the 1600, 2nd in the 3200
Courtney Casselman:  2nd in the 800
Jaymee Wolfe:  3rd in the Discus
Paige DeCamp:  2nd in the Shot Put
Jacey Cauhorn:  3rd in the Shot Put
Camille Clark:  4th in the Pole Vault
Alyssa Skiles, Kavan Edwards, Claire DeCamp, and Lydia Walterhouse: 4th in the 4 x 100 Relay

The regional qualifiers are not the lone point-earners though, as places five through seven earned small amounts of points also. These placers include:
Lindsey Casselman, Kara McLaughlin, Alyssa Claymiller, and Courtney Casselman: 5th in the 4 x 400 Relay
Chandler Jones:  5th in the 300 Hurdles

Kavan Edwards:  6th in the Long Jump, 7th in the 100 Hurdles, 8th in the 300 Hurdles

Lindsey Casselman:  6th in the 400
Riley Larson:  7th in the 800
Alyssa Skiles:  7th in the Long Jump
Kara McLaughlin:  7th in the High Jump

Lydia Walterhouse:  7th in the 200

In one of the more successful years in girls track and field, East Noble is sending girls in nine of sixteen events, a total of fourteen runners, nine of which are seniors.

“This makes me feel so wonderful,” says senior Jacey Cauhorn, a regional qualifier in the discus throw and shot put. “It is pretty awesome seeing my teammates that work hard every day make it to regionals. I´m so proud of my team and the sacrifices everyone has made. I am the happiest for our wonderful coaches. They work so hard and deserve it as much as the team does.”

The girls’ regional qualifiers travel to Warsaw next Tuesday, May 27, to compete against other teams in the region for the right to run at the state level.
