The Jamaican bobsled team’s participation caught much popularity because of their tropical location.

Bobsleigh, or bobsled, as it is more commonly referred to in North America, is a winter sport that involves a mountain descent at high speeds on artificially frozen ice tracks on controlled sledges, or “bobs.” The Olympics’ bobsleigh competition consists of four runs over a two-day period, with two runs a day. The medals are awards based on best overall time for the four runs, and if there is a tie, both teams are awarded the same place. The Olympics bobsleigh competition has four events, each getting two days: Two-man, four-man, and the women’s, which is made of two-woman teams.
