Unite The League: Justice League Preview

In just two days the DCEU’s fate is determined. It will either sink into the depths of Tartarus, or rise to glory. With the mediocre Superman Movies, the controversial Batman v Superman, and the epic Wonder Woman movie, the DCEU is averaging out at about average. You either love it or you hate it. The fate of the league will determine the fate of the Universe.

I personally have conflicted feelings about the movie. I want it to be incredible so that we have an awesome Justice League movie. At the same time, I want it to be terrible so that they abandon the DCEU approach (stop trying to replicate marvel!!!) and turn back towards the success of old. Make the one-off movies, the independent franchises that did so well. The Dark Knight trilogy, the Superman Movies, these are regarded as some of the greatest superhero movies. Marvel has it’s cohesive universe, DC doesn’t need one.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What we know so far about:

The Plot:

This is the official Summary:

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes — Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash — it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Basically:

Batman makes a Justice League…Whew! Glad they told us that in the summary and not in the Title of the movie or anything… Oh, wait a minute!

The Characters:

Batman- Ben Affleck- He’s not Christian Bale’s Batman, but that’s not necessarily a bat thing. He’s a darker, more Batmanish Batman- who yes, used a gun (Get over it already). Honestly, the only things that Batfleck isn’t better than Bale’s Batman are in costume (sorry, the little ear bumps just don’t do it for me, I want the big pointy ones) and ratings for their movies.

Wonder Woman- Gal Gadot- I really don’t need to say anything about her because her movie speaks for itself. The only thing she was missing was her invisible jet (unless we couldn’t see it…)

Aquaman- Jason Mamoa- I am super happy with the changes made to aquaman for this movie. The costume looks so much less like an infant onsie and so much more like an epic superhero costume. The character seems just as campy as ever in acting, but that should provide some comic relief in an otherwise serious movie.

Cyborg- Ray Fisher- I’m going to say it, the other costumes are great, but this cyborg costume is EPIC. It’s 1000 times better than any other costume I’ve seen (in any superhero movie). The half man half machine Cyborg looks, sounds, and for all intents and purposes is the Cyborg from the comics.

The Flash- Grant Gustin Ezra Miller- What to say about this version of the flash… he’s immature (not a bad thing) but he hasn’t screwed up the timeline (yet) so that’s a plus. He’s no Grant Gustin, (though an alternate earth where they meet up would make me so very happy!) but, he’s growing into the role. The costume is very rudimentary and needs an upgrade to a sleeker design (possibly provided by Batman?)

Steppenwolf- Ciarán Hinds- It’s an odd day where the villain never actually met any of the heroes on set- but today is that day! Hinds did his role entirely in motion capture and never once met any of the cast. His portrayal seems like he’s a giant angry axe wielding, parademon leading, bad guy from apokolipse. Which is pretty much a good summary of him from the comics.

Myths and Rumors…

This movie’s villain is here just to introduce darkseid.

Ok, I could believe this a little bit. It would be perfect setup for JL2, but if all this movie does is setup a new villain then it will only be as successful as BvS. (AKA not very successful)

Dark Superman

There are those among us who believe that Dark Superman from the Injustice story Line will be coming back in this movie to “protect” the world. I just don’t happen to be among them.

Supergirl

In the trailers we got to see a tiny bit of a red cape and a thin leg. That’s it, and people are already speculating that it’s Supergirl. I could see that- but I also think they would have marketed that- or mentioned that in the IMDB cast listing. So, I’m guessing she’s not gonna show up to fight in this one.

Dr. Fate

This one’s really out there. DC and WB made an app called DC Legends. One of the challenges only allowed for you to use characters appearing in the Justice League movie, and one of the characters allowed was Dr. Fate. I find it hard to believe that they could keep that a secret, and that they would reveal it in such a minor way.

Hopes and Dreams…

I want an Arrowverse Crossover. I know, it’s “Impossible” to cross over the silver screen and the Big Screen. But, really? It’s not that hard. Just bring over Mellissa Benoist, Stephen Amell, and Grant Gustin from the arrowverse have them join up with Batfleck, Gal Gadot, Henry Cavil, and the rest of the DCEU League to create the Multiverse version of the Justice League. It’s not that crazy to think a little bit of dimension hopping could bring these guys all together.
