Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Review

The galaxy’s greatest band of misfits get another chance to save the galaxy in Marvel Studio’s latest movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Set a few months after the events of the first movie, the Guardians of the Galaxy are hiring themselves out for odd jobs while avoiding the many people who want to kill them. Eventually, this leads them to encounter Ego, a living planet who is bent on spreading his presence to all other planets in the galaxy.

The film stars several actors from the first film, including Chris Pratt as Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel as Baby Groot, Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Sean Gunn as Kraglin and new cast members, like Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, Chris Sullivan as Taserface, Sylvester Stallone as Stakar Ogord, and Kurt Russell as Ego. And, of course, who could forget those cameos, including the classic Stan Lee cameo and Seth Green as Howard the Duck. Overall, this was a great cast, and all of the actors seemed to interact really well.

The visual effects were also quite stunning, especially as far as Ego’s planet is concerned. (In particular, scenes where it shows the surface of the planet from space, where it looks like his face is embedded into the planet.) The space battles and the warp sequence (where we saw Stan Lee’s cameo, I might add) were also very well done.

Finally, there’s the plot. While I believe that the first movie had a more well-rounded plot, this one didn’t do that bad of a job. They still were able to tell a story, insert a lot of humor, add classic 1980s references, and wrapped it all up in a few hours. Overall, another job well done.

I give this movie a 9.7/10. Marvel fans will not be disappointed, and I recommend that anyone who has not seen this movie yet should go, but PLEASE stay through the entire sequence of credits, as there are a total of five different credit scenes spaced throughout.
