Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 Game Review

Heroes join forces to fight against evil in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.

Taking place after the events of the first edition, the game follows the events of the Superhero Civil War as told in Marvel’s Civil War comic book series. After a superhero-related event leads to the death of over 600 innocent people, the government passes the Superhero Registration Act, which requires all superhumans to register their identities to the government or face arrest. To Iron Man, this will restore the public’s faith in superheroes. To Captain America, it’s an unconstitutional way of subjugating heroes who risk their lives every day. As the Civil War escalates, a darker force makes its move, threatening to engulf the entire planet in darkness.

Gameplay lets you take control of a team of four different Marvel characters, including Iron Man, Captain America, Luke Cage, Spider Man, and Wolverine. The choice on whether to fight for the Pro-Registration side (led by Iron Man and Mr. Fantastic) or the Anti-Registration side (led by Captain America and Luke Cage) is up to the player. Once you choose your side, however, certain characters are locked until the story reaches a convergence point (the battle at the chemical plant).

Like the last game, each hero has special powers that you can use against the enemies you fight, such as Hulk’s thunderclap and Spider Man’s webs. Unlike the last game, though, you can use two heroes to use a special fusion attack that can kill multiple enemies at once. For example, using Gambit and Deadpool for a fusion attack can clear out a large radius of enemies at once.

I was very pleased with this game. It was very excited when I learned that it was available on Steam (as it was previously only on other game consoles such as Xbox). The gameplay was also very challenging, especially the final mission. This game fully lived up to my expectations, and it has been fun playing through it and unlocking the heroes. My personal favorite team is Cable, Deadpool, Gambit, and Songbird.

I give this game a 10/10 and an A+. I definitely recommend this game to those Marvel fans out there.
