Five Movies You Should Consider Watching over Summer Vacation

Sumer vacation is in the air, and with summer vacation comes a whole slew of summer movies. We’ve already seen the success of Captain America: Civil War and the (surprisingly somewhat) success of The Angry Birds Movie this month. Here are five flicks you should consider watching this summer.

5: Finding Dory

Yes, you heard that right, folks. Everyone’s favorite forgetful fish is back in the sequel to Finding Nemo. This films sees Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) attempting to find her family with the help of Marlin (Albert Brooks) and Nemo (Hayden Rolence). Also returning from the first film are Crush (Andrew Stanton), Mr. Ray (Bob Peterson), Gil (Willem Dafoe) and Deb (Vicki Lewis).

4: Star Trek: Beyond

The next installment in the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek: Beyond sees the crew of the Enterprise—including Captain Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), Lieutenant Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Bones (Karl Urban) and Scotty (Simon Pegg)—stranded on a planet being hunted by a new foe (Idris Elba). But without previous Star Trek director J.J Abrams (who couldn’t direct this movie since he was busy directing Star Wars: The Force Awakens), will this movie rate as well as the previous films?

3: Suicide Squad

I have always said, and will probably always will say, that I prefer Marvel over DC, especially after Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice failed to meet all my expectations, and Captain America: Civil War exceeded them. But this does not stop me from looking forward to the next DC film, Suicide Squad. In this film, supervillains such as Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) are being recruited by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) to take on black ops missions to stop an unknown threat in exchange for clemency. I have been looking forward to this movie ever since the first official trailer was released. However, with all the hype it’s been getting, this causes me to question whether or not it will be good or not. Still, it will make an excellent movie to watch to end summer vacation, as it comes out one day after the next school year begins.

2: X-Men: Apocalypse

Okay, I understand that early reviews for Brian Singer’s latest installment in the X-Men film franchise have only given it about a 50% approval rating, but this is a film that I have been looking forward to ever since X-Men: Days of Future Past. Despite the mixed reviews, I look forward to watching Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) lead X-Men such as Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Quicksilver (Evan Peters), and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) into battle against the greatest threat the world has ever faced: the world’s first mutant. En Sabah Nur, the mutant known as Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac), has returned to bring an end to the world, recruiting Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), and Angel (Ben Hardy) as his Four Horsemen. I fully expect this film to be a blockbuster, but the reviews will sadly keep this from living up to the success of the previous X-Men film.

1: Independence Day: Resurgence

This is the movie I am most looking forward to this summer. I have been waiting a very long time for the sequel to Independence Day. The trailers for this latest movie have made it look awesome. In the film, 20 years have passed since the world survived an attack from aliens. Now Earth is stronger than ever, using the alien’s technology to strengthen their planet. However, before their ultimate defeat, the aliens managed to send a distress call. Now reinforcements have arrived, leaving to another global catastrophe. Only the strength and ingenuity of a handful of brave men and women can now save the human race. The film stars Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, and Brent Spiner reprising their roles as David Levinson, Thomas J. Whitmore, Julius Levinson, Jasmine Dubrow-Hiller, and Dr. Brackish Okun respectively, alongside Jessie Usher and Maika Monroe, who portray the adult versions of Dylan Dubrow-Hiller and Patricia Whitmore, who were just children in the first film.

New actors such Liam Hemsworth, Sela Ward, and Angelababy also star as Jake Morrison, President Elizabeth Lanford, and Rain Lao respectively. The only problem I see with this movie is the absence of Will Smith’s character, Steve Hiller, who, according to trailers and other news about the film, died in a test of an alien-human hybrid plane. Despite Smith’s absence, I believe that this film will be really good, especially since Roland Emmerich is returning to direct, for I truly believe that no one else can pull off directing an Independence Day film.
