A Look at Avengers: Age of Ultron

With the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron coming up in about a month, the Avengers fans who are only fans because of the previous movie (not fans who read the comic books) have asked me several times “Who is Ultron?” The answer to that question is not easily answered. Mostly, because there were lots of Ultrons.

Ultron at its very core is a self-thinking and preserving AI. However, over time it became a super power that the Avengers need to reckon with. In the new movie Tony Stark (Iron Man) and Bruce Banner (The Hulk) created Ultron. In the comics it was Hank Pym. While that is a difference, it changes very little about Ultron as a character. The beginning of this Ultron is similar to that of Ultron 18. Ultron 18 was an old Iron Man suit with the Ultron 18 Head on it. In the trailer we see exactly that. An old Iron Man suit with an Ultron head on it. Eventually Ultron has to upgrade from the Iron Man suit using the imaginary metal adamantium. This upgrade makes Ultron nearly indestructible. Ultron also has a view of the world that certainly gets originality points. Humans are the source of everything bad on earth. His solution: Kill them, kill them all. In order to do this he knows that he must upgrade. If the Marvel team stays true to the comics he will upgrade himself using the indestructible adamantium. This gives way to the line in the trailer of “There are no strings on me.”

In the trailer we also get to see Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch. In the comics The Scarlet Witch destroys Ultron by using her hex power to fry his circuitry. Whether or not this happens you can be sure that The Scarlet Witch is going to stay with the Avengers. Her brother, Quicksilver, is a bit more of a rouge. He does, for a time, join up with the Avengers in the comics; however, he decides he is more of a one man team. He then goes off on his own; however, whenever the Avengers need him, you can count on one thing: he’ll be there.

In the trailer we see Captain America’s shield laying on the ground broken. The Cap’s shield is made of vibranium. Vibranium is even stronger than adamantium. In fact, adamantium was made by the scientist who created wolverine. The metal was as close as he could come to vibranium. So to break that shield there is either some serious heat or some serious force. But, could this be where Ultron gets his metal from this time? Could he be using the Cap’s shield as a metal to make his super metal suit even stronger? Unfortunately we have to wait an entire month to find out.

Also in the trailer we get to see a deranged Hulk send a police car flying down the street. Then, what else: the HULKBUSTER armor. This armor can allegedly rival that of the hulk in both strength and toughness. But, why is this suit being used? Why, to fight Hulk of course! At one point we can see the hulk with a drop of sweat rolling down his cheek and some very bloodshot eyes. This leads me to believe that the Hulk has come down with something that is causing him to go crazy. And, no I don’t mean the common cold or the flu. I mean either an induced drug or side effects from the gamma radiation that caused it. Either way, that sickness leads to what could easily be the best robotic fight suit vs. super being fight in history.

No matter what happens, we can expect two to two-and-a-half hours of stuff blowing up, iconic catch phrases, and pure awesomeness.
