Mockingjay Part 1 Review

A rebellion has emerged, planning to take down the Capitol in the 3rd installment of The Hunger Games movie series, staring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, and Elizabeth Banks.
Katniss Everdeen (Jenifer Lawrence) has been rescued from the Capitol after the Quarter Quell, and has been taken to District 13 to be the Mockingjay, the face of the rebellion. She is sent to several districts to be filmed for promos for the districts to rise up against the Capitol. But will Katniss be able to complete her task when Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) is a prisoner of the Capitol?
I really enjoyed this movie. It had a lot of great scenes of action/violence, as well as slow scenes where we learn more about Katniss’s character and personality. I also believe that the portrayal of President Coin (Julianne Moore) was perfect. They even did alright by comparison to the book Mockingjay.
However, I do believe that they could’ve picked a better spot for their cliffhanger ending. I even found a spot that would’ve been a better cliffhanger ending. I won’t say where, though, for then this article will be filled with spoilers.
The most beautiful part of the film was when Katniss sings “The Hanging Tree”. I thought the movie’s portrayal of the song, as well as Jennifer Lawrence’s singing of it was both eerie and beautiful.
I rate this film as an A- film, and I give it 4 ½ stars.
