Keep Your Cool

Do you ever find yourself going crazy with something that tests your patience? Does it bother you enough to make yourself wonder how much longer you can keep your cool?

Sometimes, especially when you are frustrated, you could get out of control. To accept the situation in an appropriate manner, it helps to approach the situation with an open mind. When it comes to an annoying problem or person, you should consider all of the circumstances before allowing yourself to act out and possibly regret something.

Tips to keep your cool:

  • Strive not to over react – it is easy to make a situation a bigger deal than it truly is.  When a problem is approached, avoid negative thoughts. A key motivator is to think you are the bigger person.
  • Think before you share – Do not describe, blog, or tweet about the situation to your friends right away; let your mind settle down before sharing any information.  Sometimes friends will make the problem a bigger deal than when it started, so be in a calm state of mind before discussing.
  • Take your time – Imagine the problem as a knot. The more you pull the tighter it gets. Taking the time to loosen the knot, you need a calm, controlled mind to focus and solve the problem.
  • Notice the patterns – Is there a specific situation when you lose your cool, such as the time of day, who you are around, or what you are doing? Knowing the patterns will help significantly in knowing the ways to keep your mind calm.
  • Recognize how to control emotions – Return to a time when you were able to stay calm in a frustrating situation.  How did you control yourself?
  • Create a calm environment – Listening to music is one way to calm the mind. Silence or soft soothing instrumental music with dim lights or candles most likely will calm my mind.Next time, you feel frustrated or about to lose your cool think about peace and go to a place where the mind can be cleared.
