December Movies 2013

December is not only the greatest month of the year because of Christmas, but also because it seems like there is a new and exciting movie every day this month. And these new movies are desperately trying to catch some of your Christmas money. The competition is so fierce that there are FIVE movies premiering nationwide on Christmas Day. So choose wisely and get excited for the return of Ron Burgundy, The Hobbit franchise, as well as Jennifer Lawrence.

December 13:

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug– This is part two of the film adaptions for The Hobbit. In this film we will see the return of Bilbo Baggins as he journeys with Gandalf and the Thirteen Dwarves to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. This movie stars Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, and Richard Armitage.

This film is rated PG-13.

Madea travels to the country during the holidays to visit a friend, and when she arrives, a whole bunch of secrets rise to the surface and relationships are put to the test. This film stars Chad Michael Murray, Larry the Cable Guy, Tika Simpler, and Tyler Perry him/herself.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues– (Read this in Will Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy voice) Ladies and gentlemen; it has been a long nine years. The time has come for my glorious return! Feast your eyes on my stylish suit as I embark on a journey of epic proportions to New York with my pals Champ Kind, Brian Fantana, and Brick Tamland to take over the very first 24-hour news station!

This film is rated PG-13.

December 20:

Saving Mr. Banks- Here comes Tom Hanks as Walt Disney in this true story of the struggle to obtain the rights to Marry Poppins for Walt Disney Pictures. This looks like an incredibly charming and heartfelt film for the family and also stars Emma Thompson and Colin Farrell.

This film is rated PG-13.

Walking with Dinosaurs- This will be a really good movie to take the little ones to see, with amazing animation and a good underdog story.  This film follows a young dinosaur as he becomes a hero for his time and offers the voice talents of Justin Long and John Leguizamo, and Karl Urban.

This film is rated PG.

December 25:

American Hustle- Last year’s Best Director Nominee, David O. Russell, is giving us another star-studded drama for Christmas this year. This film stars Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Jennifer Lawrence. Holy cow, I’m excited! Christian Bale plays an expert conman, Amy Adams is his partner, and they go to work for Bradley Cooper, a not-so-traditional FBI agent. Jeremy Renner is a New Jersey politician that gets tangled up in the mess and Jennifer Lawrence is Christian Bale’s erratic housewife.

This film is rated R.

47 Ronin-  I haven’t seen Keanu Reeves in the movies for a while, but he’s back in this martial arts film where a group of samurai, known as Ronin, are seeking vengeance for their lost leader.

This film is rated PG-13.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty- I am incredibly excited for this movie. Ben Stiller stars in and directs this film based on the short story. A day-dreaming man, who has never done anything truly interesting in his life, goes on adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever dreamed up. As Mrs. Thangvijit described perfectly, “The trailer itself is a work of art!”

This film is rated PG.

The Wolf of Wall Street- Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are teaming up to bring us a film based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, a man that went from rags to riches through the stock market and eventually falls again because of crime and corruption.

This film is rated R.

Grudge Match- Okay, I can pretty much guarantee that this film won’t be winning any Oscars, but come on! Robert DeNiro and Sylvester Stallone are fighting each other in a boxing movie, with appearances from Alan Arkin, Kevin Hart, and Jon Bernthal?! How cool is that?!

This film is rated PG-13.
