November Movies 2013

This November brings the return of The Girl on Fire, Thor of Asgard, and Disney animation movies. Be prepared for some box office mayhem.

November 1

Ender’s Game: Starring Asa Butterfield (Hugo), Harrison Ford, and Ben Kingsley, Ender’s Game is the film adaption of Orson Scott Card’s 1985 novel. The story takes place in the near future where an alien race has attacked earth, but the International Fleet Commander (Kingsley) saved the day. Now, Colonel Graff (Ford)  and the International Military are selecting the best and brightest youth to find the next Fleet Commander, and the young and brilliant, Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterdfield), who is excelling in his training, may be the next Fleet Commander. It may be all up to Ender to save the world.  Ender’s Game has already received 28 million dollars in the box office this past weekend and is currently the top movie in America. It currently has 7.2 out of 10 from over 9500 viewers on IMDB.

Ender’s Game is rated PG-13.

Last Vegas: This movie just looks like a really great time. Starring Robert De Niro, Kevin Kline, Morgan Freeman, Michael Douglas and Mary Streenburgen this movie follows a group of mature gentlemen friends determined to have the greatest Vegas bachelor party for the last single man in the group (Douglas). It only has 6.6 out of 10 on IMDB but if you’re a fan of these legendary actors then you may want to see them all together in a wild comedy.

Last Vegas is rated PG-13.

Free Birds: Free Birds follows two turkeys, voiced by Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson, determined to travel back in time to remove turkeys from the Thanksgiving menu. This animated feature has a humorous plot idea and some talented actors offering their vocal talents, but based on the trailer and the 5.1 out of 10 rating on IMDB, my guess is this movie missed the target on humor and execution.

Free Birds is rated PG.

November 8

Thor: The Dark World: As a Marvel fan, I will most definitely be going to see the return of Thor this weekend. This movie follows Thor who is struggling to save Earth and the Nine Realms from being taken over by an enemy older than the universe itself. The Thor sequel has 7.8 out of 10 on IMDB and stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, and Idris Elba as Heimdall.

Thor: The Dark World is rated PG-13.

About Time: Rachel McAdams in another romance movie. Woohoo. This time she’s falling for a young man (Domhall Gleeson) with the ability to travel through time. Sounds familiar, right? Turns out that in 2009, Rachel McAdams starred in another romance movie where she falls for a time traveler in The Time Traveler’s Wife. I know that McAdams is talented so it’d be nice to see her in something other than romance movies. This movie does look funny and charming so I wouldn’t write it off as “just another romance movie” yet.

About Time is rated R.

The Book Thief: Based on the novel by Markus Zusak, this movie follows a young girl that enjoys harboring books when her adoptive parents hide a Jewish refugee in their home during World War II. It stars Emily Watson, Geoffrey Rush, and Sophie Nelisse and looks like a poignant picture based on the story and trailer. This movie currently has 6.2 out of 10 from 465 users; my guess is that a lot of people just preferred the book over the movie.

The Book Thief is rated PG-13.

November 22

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire: I don’t even have to tell you what this one is about, I’m pretty certain you already know. This was a great books series and this movie was directed by Francis Lawrence, the man that directed 2007’s I Am Legend. I’m very excited for this movie and I’m sure it will make the box office explode.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is rated PG-13.

The Delivery Man: I want to know whose idea it was to premiere poor Vince Vaughn’s new movie on the same day as the Hunger Games sequel. This movie doesn’t even stand a chance at the box office to Katniss and Peeta. Any money this movie makes will just look like pennies and nickels compared to the millions Catching Fire is expected to make. Anyway, inevitable tragedy aside, this movie stars Vince Vaughn as a man who discovers he has fathered 533 children from the donations he gave to a fertility clinic years ago. Now, he must decide whether or not he will reveal himself when 142 of the kids go to court to find out who their father is.

The Delivery Man is rated PG-13.

Frozen: Disney has returned to bring us an animated musical about Anna (Kristen Bell) and Kristoff, a mountain man, that team up to find the Snow Queen when their kingdom is trapped in eternal winter. Anna and Kristoff also come across an adorable and funny little snowman that assists them on their journey. This movie looks very cute and is something you can take your younger siblings or relatives to go see.

Frozen is rated PG.

The fall movie season is in full swing and you should consider going to see some of these movies as the weather gets colder and colder.
