Skyrim Game Review

Skyrim Review

*WARNING* Contains Spoilers

A friend of a friend told me about this game called Skyrim, a role-playing fantasy dungeon crawler where you have the blood of a Dragon, and now you must go slay the big bad leader dragon and his cronies!

Sort of.

Technically you don’t have to, but I’ll get to that in a second.

Before you go any further in the tutorial, you have to make your character. First you choose your race,

Khajiit- A walking talking cat, used mainly if you want to be a thief, they also get extra damage added to attacking with bare hands because of their claws, and they have a power you can use to see better in the dark

Altmer(High Elf)- A, well, an elf, that usually is well practiced in magic. Has an ability that lets it regenerate magic 10 times faster for 60 seconds.

Bosmer(Wood Elf)- Another type of elf. Generally used as a ranger(bows user) and is one with the wilderness. Has a skill that can make the surrounding animals its allies.

Dunmer(Dark Elf)- Also a magic user for the most part, they can also be thieves. They have a skill that can surround it in fire for 60 seconds.

Argonian- A walking reptile, they can breathe underwater. Has a skill that recovers health 10 times faster for 60 seconds

Breton- Good warriors, they look a lot like humans. They have a skill that absorbs 50% of magic from all incoming spells for 60 seconds.

Imperial- You might not be liked by everyone being an imperial, due to the civil war you will learn about. But they are fair skinned humans with a skill that calms all nearby people for 30 seconds.

Nord- Natives of Skyrim, human look a likes. Good fighters, has a skill that makes all nearby enemies fear you for 30 seconds.

Orismer(Orc)- Very good warriors, and smiths. Generally a reserved race, they have a skill that makes it so that they take half damage and double physical damage for 60 seconds.

Redgaurd- Dark skinned warriors that are excellent fighters. They have a skill that makes their stamina regenerate 10 times faster for 60 seconds.

Then you get to change hair color, skin/fur/scale color, eye color and such. Then you name your character. Then you do the tutorial.

You get through the tutorial of a Dragon attacking a village as you’re sent to the chopping block. After that you have two choices, leave with a member of the rebels who was your execution buddy, or leave with one of the Imperials.

For obvious reasons, I left with the Rebel. You fight your way out make it to some small town that sends you to a bigger town that you help to prepare their defenses against the Dragons. After all that you find out that you’re Dragonborn! (Which doesn’t make sense because I’m always a Khajiit)

After that you can basically go off on your own and have a jolly good time.

There are many side-quests that may or may not be more interesting to you than shouting words of an ancient language that can basically tear everything apart.

You could join the Companions, a group of warriors that will turn you into a werewolf

The Thieves Guild, which you save from rock bottom and appeal yourself to a God that most consider evil, really it’s just Skyrim’s lady luck

The Dark Brotherhood, which is a legion of assassins that will welcome you to the family for killing a not-so-kind orphanage headmistress, and you talk to an ancient dead corpse lady

You can also become a vampire, but I would recommend the Dawngaurd DLC, which I will explain later.

You also can clean up the mess of the civil war Skyrim has, pick a side and go with it.

DLC’s are downloadable content that you can buy, whether it’s from the PS3 store, or the Microsoft store. It adds more material to your game. The Dawngaurd DLC adds a war against Vampires to the mix, and if you want to be a vampire then I would suggest you wait until a Vampire Lord gets you so that you can become a Vampire Lord. The Hearthfire DLC makes it so that you can build houses and adopt two children. The Dragonborn DLC adds another island to Skyrim where you fight against people who want you dead, like everything else in the game.

In the end it will all come down to glitch swapping. Some glitches are cool, some aren’t in your favor at all, and Skyrim has a lot of glitches. One of my least favorite is how you can get stuck and can’t move in the weirdest places. Also if you put a bucket or a bowl over someone’s face they won’t see you as you sneak around stealing all the shiny objects.

Overall, 9/10, I rather enjoy the game, despite all of its issues.

So go play the game, and enjoy making everyone’s petty problems YOUR petty problems.
