September Movies 2013

School is back in session and the summer movie season is coming to an end. There were some ups and way too many downs at the box-office over the summer. I just want to give a shout-out to great movies like World War Z that managed to well at the box office and in the eyes of critics and audiences. That movie was fast-paced, exhilarating, and well-written. If you didn’t get to see it in theaters, I recommend renting it when it comes out on DVD.

However, not every movie did as well as World War Z and as it’s time to say “goodbye” to the rocky summer movie season (which I’m sure some of you are glad to do), it’s also time to greet the bountiful crop of movies coming out this fall. Let me tell you, this fall we will see everything from astronauts lost in space, to superheroes kicking butt, to dance competitions. Hopefully, there will be enough variety for everyone to find something they love.

So, here is a list of PG/PG-13 movies coming out this September:

September 13:

Insidious Chapter 2: I’ll be honest; it took me three tries watching the first Insidious to finally keep my eyes open the whole time. I did it though! Now I’m actually excited to see the second installment of this franchise in theaters, and leave it to James Wan to premiere the movie on the infamous Friday the 13th. Thanks Wan. This horror sequel stars the original cast. Yay! I personally welcome the return of Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, and Barbara Hershey. I already know this movie will make me scream and shield my eyes, let me know if it does the same to you.

September 20:

Battle of the Year: I am not too sure about this one. This movie is about a team of American dancers who try to win the title after fifteen years of losing. If you were a fan of the Step Up franchise and love to watch people dance, go ahead and buy a ticket. I can’t say that I’ll do the same. This movie stars Josh Holloway, Josh Peck, Caity Lotz, and Chris Brown. We all know how nice of a guy he is.

September 27:

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2: I loved this book as a little kid and I loved the movie adaption back in 2009. The sequel brings back Flint Lockwood who learns that his machine that made it rain colossal cuisine is still running and spitting out wild animal/food hybrids. This movie brings back the voice talents of Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Will Forte, James Caan and Andy Samberg.

There are also a few movies coming out this September that may require some authorization from a parental figure prior to viewing. Below each description is a link to the Parental Guide page on IMDB.

Here are a few more movies coming out in September:

September 6:

Riddick: Some of you may remember watching Pitch Black in 2000 or The Chronicles of Riddick in 2004. This is the third installment in the series and we find Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet and has to battle alien predators to survive. This sci-fi action movie stars Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, and Katee Sackhoff.

September 13:

The Family:  Robert De Niro fans rejoice! Under the Witness Protection Program, a mafia boss (De Niro) relocates his family to France after snitching on the mob. In addition to De Niro, this movie brings in Michelle Pfeiffer and the eternally gruff Tommy Lee Jones.

September 20:

Prisoners: I am very excited for this movie. It has some of my favorite actors, an exciting premise, and the trailer gave me chills. Hugh Jackman plays a man whose young daughter, and her equally young friend, go missing and he takes matters into his own hands. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a young detective trying his best to find the girls while Paul Dano plays an unusual man who is believed to have had something to do with the girls’ disappearance. This movie looks dark and exciting and I can’t wait to see it.

Rush: Chris Hemsworth stars in an exciting drama about the two greatest rivals in Formula One Racing the world has ever seen. This movie also stars David Bruhl and Olivia Wilde. I just know the ladies will see this because of Hemsworth’s remarkable acting range.
