East Noble Spell Bowl Team Stays Busy During Fall Break
The East Noble Spell Bowl team traveled to two invitational competitions over fall break. Due to illness and other commitments, at neither the Penn nor the Kouts Invite was the Spell Bowl team complete. However, all of the students competed to the best of their ability and the team was able to place in the top five at each competition.
Thursday, October 1st, the spelling Knights made the long trip to Mishawaka to compete at the Penn High School Invitational. Even though they were one speller short, they managed to bring home a fourth place finish, just three points behind third place Kouts. Second place team New Prairie scored a total 47, and home team Penn scored a total 89 (only misspelling one word).
Senior co-captain Alyssa Yoquelet led the way for the Knights with a perfect score of nine (first perfect score for the team, as well as only student to get a perfect score that was not from Penn High School). Senior Jenna Boese scored a near-perfect eight, and senior co-captain Phillip Phan scored a seven. Junior Meghann McCoy scored a five, while junior Michael Lehman and sophomore Abby Vorndran both spelled four words correctly. Junior Kaelyn Bender spelled two words correctly, and freshman Alyvea Bender and sophomore Nick McCoy both scored a one.
Other team scores for the Penn Invitational were as follows:

The Knight spellers then made the three hour long trip to Kouts High School. The team was two spellers short, but managed to make an 11 point improvement from their last competition at Penn. The team finished in fifth place, scoring behind Kouts, Plymouth, Martinsville, and Penn.
The seniors led the way for the team, with co-captains Alyssa Yoquelet and Phillip Phan, as well as Jenna Boese all scoring a perfect nine. These three spellers made up for over half of the total team score. Fellow senior Lucas Graden as well as junior Michael Lehman both spelled six words correctly, while junior Meghann McCoy and sophomore Abby Vorndran correctly spelled five words. Sophomore Nick McCoy scored a three, making for a total score of 52 for spelling Knights.
