A calendar view of the final six weeks of school.

Six weeks, 40 days, and 29 school days are the only things standing between now and summer break. It’s officially been three weeks since East’s Noble’s revolutionary two-week spring break came to an end, meaning that East Noble has reached the homestretch of the school year. Teachers have been bustling to update their students’ grades in time for midterms, and talk of summer break has been rising all around the school. Students and teachers alike are eager for June 5 to arrive and give them a well-deserved two-month break.

“I am super excited for summer!” says Kyra Warren, a freshman.

She’s not alone. Kids all around East Noble are ready to be freed from school’s responsibilities. Some are planning vacations. Others are applying for summer jobs. There will be trips. There will be fun times with friends. And there will be Netflix. Sleeping in late will be become the norm once again for a large percent of the school’s population, and other awesome things are bound to happen to everyone this summer.

Friday, June 5 is going to be the last day of the 2014-2015 school year. Freshmen will become sophomores on that day, and sophomores will be able to call themselves juniors. However, several kids like Jaden DiGirolamo, a sophomore, are not too thrilled to be entering the next grade level since growing up can seem scary.

“I kind of wish that this school year was just starting and wish it was over all at the same time,” he says.

Nevertheless, the end is near. Even with its numerous snow days and its early start on August 4 in 2014, this year has soared by at an amazing speed, according to several students.

“This school year’s been really fast,” sophomore Lucas Gurtner sums up the situation.

Even a vast majority of the teachers agree. Spanish teacher Señorita Ignasiak, for example, is one of them.

“This year has flown by,” she says, “but I don’t think I’m alone when I say I’m ready for some time off to relax before starting fresh next year!”

Although several high school kids might cringe at the thought, the 2015-2016 school year will commence on Thursday, August 6. On that day, the same old East Noble High School will be flooded with new incoming freshmen while the current batch of seniors will be out pursuing colleges, careers, and the adult world beyond. The school will be a somewhat different place, and it might be hard for some kids and even teachers to adjust to the changes next year could bring. Fortunately, everyone has a two-month summer break to give them the energy and relaxation to overcome these obstacles.

“Where has the time gone?” exclaims Josh Brown of the junior class. “I’ll gladly welcome summer, but I’m going to miss hanging out with my friends at school, and I’m going to be a senior. That’s kind of scary.”

The thought of graduating high school often seems frightening to high schoolers, which is only natural. East Noble’s current class of seniors will be turning their tassels from right to left at their graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 6, but even a majority of them appear to be ready for a long, restful summer after three trimesters of craziness.

“The senioritis has set in and I’m ready for summer!” says senior Dezaray Barr.

The thought of summer break will be enough motivation to help East Noble’s high schoolers and teachers push through these final six weeks. They’ll face everything from an e-learning day on Monday, May 4 to a wave of finals on June 4 and 5. Students are encouraged to do their best with their schoolwork and extracurricular activities in order to make the end of this school year incredible.

As principal Steve Peterson stated in an email he sent to students and teachers right before spring break, everyone in the East Noble community should be “ready to finish the year on a strong note.”
