This past weekend was the Regional Science and Engineering Fair. Students from around the northeast Indiana area from different schools came together at Trine University in Angola to compete. There are many students from each grade who had amazing projects and who worked really hard. Divisions for the competition went by grade for 1-5, and then middle school students were classified as Junior Division, and Senior Division for high school students in.

The categories in the Junior Division were, Animal Science, Behavioral and Social Science, Biochemistry, Botany and Microbiology, Chemistry, Environmental and Earth Science, Engineering, and Physics and Astronomy. An East Noble Middle School student won in Environmental and Earth Science, and that was a 7th grade student, Austin Liepe. He is related to our very own Mr. Liepe, the head science teacher that is in charge of the Science Fair for the high school.

The categories for the senior division were, Animal Science, Botany and Microbiology, Chemistry, Environmental and Earth Science, Engineering, Math and Computer Science, and Physics and Astronomy. East Noble had 6 students who competed in these events. These six students are senior Rachel Smolinske, sophomore Kaelyn Bender, freshman Sahil Patel, freshman Zarna Patel, freshman Danielle Replogle, and freshman Kyra Warren.

Rachel Smolinske won first place in Senior Animal Sciences and an award from the Northeastern Center Senior Division Award which includes a cash prize of $50. Kaelyn Bender won first place in Senior Chemistry and awards from the American Chemical Society, NE Indiana Section 1, and the US Naval Research Senior. Sahil Patel won fourth place in Senior Physics and Astronomy, and an award from the US Air Force. Zarna Patel won third place in Senior Physics and Astronomy, and awards from the American Meteorological Society and the US Air Force. Danielle Replogle won second place in Senior Physics and Astronomy and awards from ASM Materials Education Foundation and second place from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Senior Division. Kyra Warren won first place in Senior Engineering and awards from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers Senior Division, first from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Senior Division, the Society of Women Engineers Senior Division, the Trine University Math Club Best Use of Mathematics, and the US Air Force.

All six of these students are going to the State Science Fair this weekend at IUPUI in Indianapolis. The competition is this Saturday and will begin at 8:00 A.M. and will end at 4:00 P.M. Judging then is at 4:30 P.M. Good Luck competitors and do well at your competition.
