On Thursday, April 17th, eight students auditioned for the position of Drum Major for the 2014-2015 school year. Drum Major is a very important job in Marching Band, as they are the leaders and time keepers of the entire group. For their audition, the each candidate memorized the song they were given and conducted along with it so that the instructors could get a feel for what they would look like if they were a drum major. Then, each student was interviewed by the instructors. All eight students were incredibly skilled, and it was very hard for the instructors to make a decision. But, on the following Friday morning, the results were posted in Mr. Muñoz´s office window. Congratulations to sophomore (soon to be junior) Daniel Kane and Junior (soon to be Senior) Joanna Foster.
I had the opportunity to talk one-on-one with Daniel and when I asked what his thoughts were, he said that he was “honored to be selected and cannot wait for this awesome experience”. Under the direction of wonderful faculty and strong leaders like Daniel and Joanna, I’m sure we can expect great things from the marching band in the upcoming year.
