Synopsis

The musical focuses on a lonely and cranky ogre named Shrek. He appears to live a happy life of mud bathing and frog eating in his swampy home, until his peace is interrupted by a cast of crazy fairytale characters. These crazy characters claim they have been evicted from their homes by the evil Lord Farquaad. Shrek agrees to help the freakish characters get their homes back if they will leave his home alone.

However, Lord Farquaad himself makes a deal with Shrek. He asks the ogre to rescue a princess trapped in a tower. Shrek agrees, and he and the silly character Donkey set out for the princess. Upon saving the damsel in distress, Shrek realizes something strange. He likes this girl, a human girl! Yet, there seems to be something out of place about this princess.
