A+look+at+the+2014+Sochi+Olympic+medals.
A look at the 2014 Sochi Olympic medals.

This is the final tally of medals from the Winter Games of 2014. The Games, as of February 23, are over. The winner is Russia, who took home the most Gold and the most medals overall. The United States came in fourth, and took home the most Bronze as well. One country that surprised some was Belarus, a small, landlocked, European country, who managed to take 8th place with five gold and one bronze, beating out far larger and more experience countries. Falling just below the top ten were Poland, China, South Korea, and Sweden. This year’s metal count was close all the way through with the standings constantly changing, sometime drastically.  The US was even in first for a short time near the end. This Winter Olympics seemed to go rather well for many, athletes and countries alike.

The rankings are decided first by number of Gold medals, then Silver medals, then Bronze medals, and then total medals.

1ST: RUSSIA – 13 Gold, 11 Silver, 9 Bronze, TOTAL: 33
2ND: NORWAY – 11 Gold, 5 Silver, 10 Bronze, TOTAL: 26
3RD: CANADA – 10 Gold, 10 Silver, 5 Bronze, TOTAL: 25
4TH: UNITED STATES – 9 Gold, 7 Silver, 12 Bronze, TOTAL: 28
5TH: NETHERLANDS – 8 Gold, 7 Silver, 9 Bronze, TOTAL: 24
6TH: GERMANY – 8 Gold, 6 Silver, 5 Bronze, TOTAL: 19

9TH: AUSTRIA –  4 Gold, 8 Silver, 5 Bronze, TOTAL: 17

And that is it, the final ranking and scoring of the countries for the Winter Games 2014. I hope you all enjoyed the Games while they lasted. Now we can all start the two year wait for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
