On Saturday, February 1st, East Noble’s Bi-Phy-Chem team traveled to IPFW to compete in the 2014 Division C Regional Science Olympiad. Among East Noble’s competitors were Bishop Dwenger High School (with 2 teams), Burris Laboratory School, Mt. Vernon High School (with 2 teams), and Northridge High School (with 3 teams).
To place in an event and receive a medal, East Noble needed to rank 4th or better in each event that they participated in. Out of 23 events, East Noble placed in 7. Aaron Dills, Shea Targgart and Jayson Arend took East Noble’s only 1st place medal in the bungee drop event, with their bungee cord reaching down to only 1 centimeter from the floor! East Noble placed 2nd in 4 events: Rachel Skurner and Katie Lane in Anatomy, Targgart and Arend in Chemistry Lab, Caleb Larson and Sydney Rodenbeck in Experimental Design, and Janelle Wasson and Natalie Pine in Water Quality. 3rd place finishers included Larson and Rodenbeck in Astronomy, and 4th place finishers included Lane and Rodenbeck in Rocks and Minerals.
In the final ranking, Northridge placed 1st, Bishop Dwenger placed 2nd, and Mt. Vernon placed 3rd. East Noble placed second-to-last in the competition, but everyone put forth tremendous effort and had a lot of fun! Congratulations to East Noble’s Bi-Phy-Chem team!
