Teams get ready for the anticipated Ultimate Frisbee Tournement

Imagine a food pantry running low on food and wondering if it can provide for the needy for much longer. Then imagine the needy worrying about their next meal and their fright of the food pantry closing. Lastly, imagine a group of high school students donating their time, money, and efforts in order to keep that pantry from worrying and prevent the needy from going hungry.

That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, East Noble’s National Honor Society hosted the new, annual Ultimate Frisbee Tournament on Thursday, October 24. In a tournament where winning was merely rewarded with bragging rights, each participant and spectator was required to submit a non-perishable food item or a small amount of money to enter the gates. The proceeds were suppliant at the least, as over 100 items were donated and $30 in cash collected, and were gifted to the Kendallville Friendship Food Pantry. “It was a great success,” says Jonathan Kane, president of the National Honor Society. “I was very pleased with the results.”

In one hour under the lights of the East Noble football stadium, the winners of the tournament were “Wait…This Isn’t Soccer?” as “The Costa Ricans” fell short 2-1 in the final round. Six teams of seven players participated in the single-elimination tournament, and the temperatures were low, dropping down to as low as 37 degrees.

Referees were Keegan Gura, Jake Peterson, Tyler Leazier, and Connor Holcomb, while the activities were operated and recorded by Jonathan Kane. The National Honor Society sends its deepest gratitude to each participant, spectator, and worker for allowing the Ultimate Frisbee Tournament to Frisbee for a cause!
