EN Staff Stars: Mr. Matt Rickey

Madelyn Hosford, Reporter

This week we dive into the English department to interview one of East Noble’s longest standing employees, Mr. Matt Rickey:

How many years have you been teaching at East Noble?

  • This is my 40th year of teaching—all of which have been at ENHS.

What subjects do you teach?

  • I currently teach AP English Language, online gov’t and econ. In the past I have taught U.S. History, government, and econ (in classroom settings). Next year, I may very well be teaching a class that I once had (sociology) and a brand new course (Sports Literature).

What is your favorite class to teach?

  • AP English Language is my favorite class of all time (Sociology is a close second) – Love the subject matter in both.

What’s your favorite part of teaching?

  • I very much enjoy the back and forth interaction with my students. Together we comprise a bunch of Yahoos who live in Rickey’s Dweebdom.

Do you have a favorite EN Memory? If so, what is it?

  • There are too many to count. I love this place.

Do you have any interests/hobbies outside of school?

  • I love to play guitar both at home and for the praise band at St. Johns. I would love to play in small café’s or other establishments…that’s a bucket list thing.

Do you have a fun fact about yourself?

  • My son and I traveled to the top of the Mackinac Bridge…it was awesome.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

  • The 40 years that I have taught here have all been a blessing for me. As a result, I have come to know EN and Kendallville as my home.

Congratulations to Mr. Rickey, it’s clear that you have touched the lives of hundreds of East Noble students. We love you Mr. Rickey!!!
