Senior To-Do: September

Seniors, September is the last month before things start to really get going. This is when you should be doing a bit of prep work to get ready for October through winter.

By now, you’ll want to have a good idea of what colleges you’re interested in applying to. From that list of colleges, begin finding out deadlines and due dates for applications. If your colleges of choice use the Common Application, you can sign up on its website. It has a list of all colleges that use Common Application and allows you to send your application to multiple schools so you don’t have to keep redoing it. Keep an eye on deadlines for colleges, especially if you want early application or early decision. Applying early can put you in for merit scholarships as well as hearing back from the college about acceptance earlier. Some colleges like have their early deadlines as soon as November 1, such as Purdue University and Indiana University.

If you haven’t already, sign up to take the ACT and SAT a second (or first, if you have yet to do so) time. If one of the colleges you apply to allows for super scoring, this can help you get a high and more desirable score. East Noble High School will be hosting the SAT on October 1 and the ACT on October 22.

Continue looking into scholarships. There are scholarships happening all the time, though we aren’t in to the season of it yet. You’ll want to have an idea of what scholarships you can try to get. You’ll want to try for as many of you can. This money can go a long way to helping pay for even just a bit of the cost. Note, when registering for scholarship, you shouldn’t have to pay just to apply.

There will be a financial aid night on Wednesday, September 28 at 6:30. FAFSA is starting earlier this year. Mrs. Benedict will explaining it all to parents and students at this meeting.

Lastly, get involved. This is your final year. Explore all that East Noble has to offer, try something new, and meet new people. This your last year as a high school student before you have to face college and adulthood. Enjoy it. And, if you’re looking to add something on to applications, being involved in your school also looks good to colleges.

Good luck, seniors.
