When AP classes that high school students take are thought of, English, Economics and Calculus typically come to mind. However, East Noble High School—along with other high schools—offers an AP class that serves students that otherwise might not take an advanced course.

East Noble’s AP art class is a three trimester course that allows students to do a more concentrated study on art, as well as allowing them to learn more advanced techniques when it comes to creating their artwork. It is a rigorous course in which the students begin and complete one art piece almost every week, and students spend a majority of the year working on their art concentration (a group of pieces focused on one specific topic or idea).

Many students have demonstrated great talent and success in the AP art program. Claire DeCamp, an East Noble graduate, was a student in East Noble’s AP art class and went on to study art and design in college.

The work done in the AP art class is not only noticeable in the great effort and talent portrayed in the pieces, but also by the recognition students have received for their hard work. Just recently a number of students entered their pieces in a scholastic art awards judging at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. The total amount of artworks submitted was over 2,700 pieces, and of these, art judges selected 292 Gold Keys, 155 Silver Keys, and 143 Honorable Mentions. Of the pieces submitted, East Noble received six awards:

Ali Alamri- Gold Key Drawing

Ali Alamri- Gold Key Painting

Ali Alamri: Silver Key Drawing

Stone Hall: Gold Key Digital Art

Stone Hall: Gold Key Drawing

Danielle Replogle: Honorable Mention Drawing.

The AP art program at East Noble ultimately provides our talented students an opportunity to expand upon their skills and develop their own art styles. A number of pieces made not only by AP art students but regular placement art students can be seen in the library and in the spring art showcase.
