A Day in the Life of an Interactive Media Student

Being in vocational is not too terrible. There is a fair list of pros and cons that I have compiled over the last year and mentally refer back to every once and awhile. But the topic of this piece is not that list but what goes on in the vocational, Interactive Media, that I participate in.

Now from my understanding, the class has been misinterpreted at one school as a videogame-creation-sort-of-class. No, we don’t do that, but yes, you could quite possibly create a game using the tools available at our building. We use an assortment of programs, namely Adobe products like Photoshop and Dreamweaver daily for projects.

The Interactive Media program does not solely focus on one aspect of media, especially for those who are first-years. First-year students learn about the major programs and go across the spectrum of media from audio to web design, finding a niche they wish to work in the following year. As a second-year, I work more in-depth on projects that are more towards what I liked as a first-year. Though, right now I am currently getting the hang of the programs again, plus two or three were majorly updated to the point that my instructor, Jeannette Rinard, had to give the second-years a quick lesson on the new additions.

When we aren’t busy working on projects though, we do get out of hand. Lately there have been pranks going on between us, the PM class, and the others in the AM class. This mostly consists of just taping mouses or swapping out desktop backgrounds. All in all it is fun and games.

In all honestly being a second-year is completely different than being a first-year. The previous year I was busy doing the assignments given, albeit they were fun, whereas now I have free time but choose to use it for whatever item is my top priority. No, being in vocational is not too terrible; it is quite fun, especially when you meet others who like the same things since you are wanting to work in similar fields. You make friends from other schools in vocational, and frankly I look forward to the class every day. I look forward to leave the high school at 11:27 on the dot.

No, it is not too terrible at all.
