Mr. Richhart: An Interview of Inspiration
Mr. Richhart is a history teacher at East Noble High School and is an inspiration and positive influence to students who are studying history. I interviewed him about history, or more accurately, his views on history. Meet Mr. Richhart. (If you don’t already know him, that is!)
What Is your favorite historical time period?
“There are several historical periods I really like to study: World War II, the Civil War, and the Old West. Recently though, I’ve started to gain a bigger interest in the American Revolution. I know that United States History is my favorite, by far, but when it comes to a specific time period, that seems to change depending on new information that I find or something new I see on TV.”
When would you want to live?
“I really think I’d like to live during the time of the American Revolution. The idea of being at war isn’t the most appealing, but the thought of having so much of what would later become the United States being unpopulated and available is pretty cool. With that being said, I think I’d really miss having running water, ESPN, and electricity.”
What Is your favorite historical quote?
“’So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself – nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.’ – Franklin Roosevelt.”
Favorite historical figure?
“Theodore Roosevelt or Andrew Jackson.”
Who do you think is the most important historical figure?
“I really don’t know how to answer this one… Johannes Gutenberg changed the world with the invention of the printing press, so large-scale I’d lean his way. I wouldn’t say he is the most exciting, but he was a pretty big deal.”
What sparked your interest in studying history?
“I really became a huge history dork after visiting Gettysburg. That place just has an aura about it that you can really feel, even if you aren’t into history. When I went there as an eighth grader, I couldn’t have cared less about the past. However, after I left, I was hooked.”
So that was the interview. Hopefully this gave you some insight on Mr. Richhart. (And if you’re in his class for the first time, hopefully this made him seem less intimidating) Mr. Richhart is a humorous teacher who loves history, and even though he may joke, he does appreciate the modern world we live in today. First and foremost Mr. Richhart is a teacher; he’s at our school to teach and he truly wants to push his students to their potential. Mr. Richhart is an inspiration because he’s the kind of teacher who will push his students and treat them like the young adults they are. We’re students at this school to learn and grow and be our own people, Mr. Richhart helps guide you to the path of self-growth in society. He is surely an inspiration to his students, especially to the ones interested in learning about and from history.
