Academic Super Bowl – An Inside Look!

Academic Super Bowl-An Inside Look

“Wait, we have an Academic Super Bowl team?”

This is an all-too-common response of many of the students at East Noble. Not necessarily a matter of not knowing we have a team, but certainly a matter of not knowing what Academic Super Bowl is.

So what is Academic Super Bowl? Excellent question!

Academic Super Bowl is an extracurricular that takes place every year in the spring. The students are given a specific topic to study, this year the topic of study being Ancient Rome. In the past, the topics of study have included Grecian history and the study of Westward Expansion in the United States.

Every Academic Super Bowl team is divided into six smaller teams: Math, Fine Arts, Social Studies, English, Science, and Interdisciplinary Studies. Some students are on more than one team, and those students usually compete on the interdisciplinary team.

In a competition setting, three students from their respective team (English, Math, etc.) will go to a table with a proctor. Each round consists of twenty-five questions, each worth one point. Students collaborate on questions and the team captain submits the final answer. Competitions are rather lengthy, lasting between three and four hours.

Academic Super Bowl competitors spend a great amount of time practicing, and are very dedicated and involved. Overall, East Noble’s Academic Super Bowl team is a group of very intelligent students that are representative of the devotion and dedication that all students at East Noble have for their respective activities.
