New Faces in the Halls Aren’t Just Students

New Faces in the Halls Arent Just Students

This year in the East Noble School Corporation (including the High School) there are many new faces in the halls. And no, they aren’t just freshmen. This year at the high school alone there are 11 new staff members, 5 of which are teachers, 1 Athletic Director, 4 Aids, and 1 Secretary. Many students don’t have the background knowledge to know how to prepare for a new class, let alone a new teacher. Getting to know your teachers early in the year is a good way to start off the year. The following teachers have graciously given information to help us students know them a little bit more and know what to expect.

Mr. Matthew Brian- Mr. Brian is a new science teacher here at the high school. He is also an assistant football coach at East Noble Middle School. He enjoys basketball and would like very much to get involved in the high school program. When asked what he likes about East Noble, Mr. Brian answered, “There’s a good school atmosphere. It’s what I’m used to from my high school. … Everyone has been so helpful.” Mr. Brian attended Manchester University and focuses on teaching Environmental Science and Biology here at the high school.

Mr. Nick Maksimchuk- Mr. Maksimchuk is new to the social studies department, teaching sociology and psychology, as well as history. He is excited to provide another positive learning experience to help students achieve academic greatness. He is very excited to work with technology, as it provides a new environment that can engage students. His number one goal is to “implement technology into [his] curriculum for all the classes.” Mr. Maksimchuk graduated from Tri-State University and has taught for seven years, all at Fremont High School. In addition to teaching, he is an assistant football coach, an Ohio State Buckeye fan, has a wife and son and loves traveling to the Caribbean.

Srta. Sylvia Perera- Senorita Perera has stepped into the vacant Spanish teaching position with a fire to do good. She is excited to “expose students and teachers to the Latin American culture.” When asked why she wanted to teach high school she replied, “It is a great moment in life to introduce a broader perspective of the world.” She wants to help people have an open mind about new cultures. Srta. Perera is working hard to adapt to using technology and helping students learn Spanish through international resources on the web. Srta. Perera is originally form Costa Rica and loves Latin American food. She is a Middle School Volleyball coach and loves to stay in shape. She also has a dog named Julieta (Spanish for Juliet) who understands Spanish!

Mr. Sam Sprunger- Mr. Sprunger is a big Chicago Cubs fan. That’s the first thing he always tell people. But beyond that, he has spent 7 years in a school system, but this is his first full year as being a full-time teacher. Teaching 10th and 11th grade English, he is very excited to start a new chapter of his career. He is already utilizing technology in new ways by using note taking/research websites such as Digo. Mr. Sprunger’s goal is to “provide a high-quality education and to make sure that the kids learn fun things. [He] wants to make [it] so that the kids want to take [his] class.”

Mrs. Jennifer Yuska- Mrs. Yuska is beginning her high school teaching adventure here at East Noble. After teaching French for two years at IPFW, she is excited to offer her knowledge to the students here. She is a little overwhelmed by the newness of the experience, but she is surprised at all the help that has been provided by students and teachers. She’s very excited to get into the swing of things. Mrs. Yuska is originally from the area, both her parents attending East Noble in their high school years. She moved to Florida in her teens and attended Stetson University. She is still getting used to 1-to-1 but is learning quickly through observing what other teachers are doing.

Mr. Nick David- Mr. David is coming to East Noble with 12 years of teaching at Dekalb under his belt. After attending East Noble as a student himself, Mr. David attended IUPUI and Taylor University. He is “honored and humbled” to be East Noble’s Activities Director and looks forward to providing “fair and consistent leadership for the activities department.” The experience he can offer to the students whenever an honest opinion is required is something that he is looking forward to offering to the student. Mr. David is working hard at learning all the names within his former school that he has loved for 18 years since attending East Noble.

In addition to these amazing teachers, the High School has also hired three new FLS aides (Mr. Chris Reed, Mrs. Linda Potter, and Mrs. Brenda Leas), one new Special Education Aide (Mrs. Cassondra Lindsay), and Mrs. Danielle Erwin is the high school’s new Athletic Secretary. Mr. Rief Gilg has also become one of the high school’s Assistant Principals.

East Noble has many new faces within the entire corporation, and they are all excited and ready to offer up their talents to help provide a new and exciting education experience for everyone. If you don’t know the new teachers yet, or don’t have them as teachers, don’t be afraid to say hi. They are learning new things just as much as the students, and any smile and help is welcomed just as much as it is for new students. So whether you are a new teacher, aide, transfer student, or freshman, welcome to East Noble! And good luck this year!
