A Surprise He Will Never Forget

A+Surprise+He+Will+Never+Forget
Terry Lewis

As tears fell down his eyes and he hugged his mother, Mr. Munk turned to the cast of “Shrek the Musical” and said, “Guys… this is my mom!” This emotional scene was part of the before-show atmosphere of Saturday night’s “Shrek the Musical” performance on the Munk Stage. The seniors in the cast had decided to do something special for Mr. Munk, as a way of saying thank you for 4 wonderful years in East Noble Theatre. Several theatre class students had heard Mr. Munk say that his mother loved Shrek and that he wished that he could fly her in from California to see the show. The 2014 seniors made that wish come true.

With help from local sponsors and their own donations, the seniors were able to fly Mr. Munk’s mom in from California, and his aunt in from Florida, for the weekend. When Mr. Munk’s mom was revealed to him, it was an emotional moment for everyone in the cast. There were very few dry eyes in the room. Mr. Munk told the thespians that it would be a surprise he would never forget; he was truly thankful.

The seniors would like to thank following sponsors for their help in making this dream come true for Mr. Munk: Black and Ramer Insurance, Hite Funeral Home, Campbell and Fetter Bank and the Doyle Family, The Dekko Foundation, AMI Investments, Kristy King, Dave and Carol Blackman, Best Western and Lorie McCoy, Mollie Dangler, and Aren Straiger.
