Key Club Elects Their Sixth Consecutive Lieutenant Governor

Key Club Elects Their Sixth Consecutive Lieutenant Governor

On Sunday, February 23 the Johnny Appleseed Division of the Indiana District of Key Club held their election to determine the 2014-2015 lieutenant governor. The high school’s Key Club holds a prestigious reputation as they have had seven lieutenant governors elected to be on the District Board in the past six years. Freshman Rebecka Freeman was elected to take on the position for the upcoming Key Club year. She will be replacing senior Kacey Van Wagner who has held the position since the latter part of March last year. As a lieutenant governor, Van Wagner has worked hard on the District Board serving as an active member on both the Key Links Committee and the Workshops Committee for the organization’s District Convention.

Both girls will travel to the District Convention on April 4 to partake in the festivities. The convention is simply a celebration of service for all Key Clubbers in the state of Indiana. On Sunday morning, April 6, Van Wagner will retire from her position as the Johnny Appleseed Division Lieutenant Governor, and she will install Freeman as the new lieutenant governor during the induction ceremony.

As a lieutenant governor, Freeman will be responsible for ten clubs in the counties of Noble, DeKalb, Lagrange, and Allen County. She will act as a liaison between all of her clubs and the District Board, providing them with valuable information, hosting meetings, and sponsoring charity events. In accordance with this she will serve on two committees and have opportunities to attend events like Key Leader in April, International Convention in July, and Kiwanis Family Conference in November.

Key Club itself is an international service organization that is part of the Kiwanis Family. The actual influence of Key Club International spans across thirty three districts worldwide. Each district is made up of an executive board and a district board. An International board governs over the districts. This board is comprised of a president, vice president, and eleven international trustees. The leadership opportunities that are available through Key Club are endless!

If a student is interested in joining the high school group please feel free to email the faculty advisor Mrs. Swonger at [email protected]. The club is eager to have new members no matter what time of the year it is! We wish our new lieutenant governor the best of luck in all of her endeavors; we know she will do great things throughout her term!
